Management
Sequoia’s team possesses depth of experience in managing successful scientific and business operations.
The versatile R&D team is anchored by a multidisciplinary core of scientists consisting of chemists, biochemists, structural biologists, molecular biologists, and virologists familiar with the novel technologies and ideas on which Sequoia was founded.
Douglas Ludtke, D.Sc.
Dr. Ludtke, Director, Assay Development, has broad academic, biotech and pharmaceutical company experience. He has pioneered several cutting-edge applications in the areas of microarray and sensitive nucleic acid detection technologies. Dr. Ludtke holds a B.S. degree in Pharmacy from the Ferris State University, a M.Sc. in Medicinal Chemistry from University of Michigan, and a Dr.Sci. in Microbiology from the Universitaet Konstanz, Germany.
He managed research and development projects leading to diagnostic tests for several bacterial and viral pathogens as a Group Leader at Baxter Healthcare and at IDEXX Corporations. He pioneered the QuantiGene technology, which monitors mRNA expression that was applied to evaluate drug-induced stress and cell cycle regulatory gene expression of novel toxicology screening panel at Chiron Corporation.
Dr. Ludtke later became employed as a Senior Staff Scientist at Bayer Corporation where he developed high throughput mRNA expression screening systems for use in drug discovery. Prior to joining Sequoia Pharmaceuticals, in 2001, he joined Tibotec Inc. as Head of Molecular Technologies.
